The new school year will begin on Aug. 20, 2025 and end on May 20, 2026. Those dates were set during Wednesday evening’s regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, when the board approved the 2025-26 academic calendar as presented by the calendar committee.

“There aren’t any major changes for the new calendar,” said Superintendent Dr. Fara Jones. “There will be 172 days of student attendance and 181 teacher work days. We have again built in 10 inclement weather days for students so they may enjoy traditional snow days with no online instruction.”

Teachers return to school on Tuesday, Aug. 12 for five days of pre-school workshops.

The 2025-26 academic calendar includes no-school holidays including Labor Day (Sept. 1), East Perry Fair (Sept. 19), Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Thanksgiving (Nov. 26-28), Christmas (Dec. 22 – Jan. 4), MLK Jr. Day (Jan. 19), President’s Day (Feb. 16), and Easter (April 2-6). School will additionally be closed for two teacher collaboration days — Oct. 31 and March 13 (Jan. 2 is also a collaboration day but students are on Christmas break at that time).

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Oct. 30, and there is no school that day. There are two early-dismissal days as well, with district schools dismissing at 11:30 am on Friday, Dec. 19 for Christmas break, and on Wednesday, May 20 for summer break.

The PHS graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 15 beginning at 7 pm at Perry Park Center.

In other action, the board approved the CSIP goal measurables, and heard updates on the APR and financial reports.

In closed session, the board accepted the resignations of special education teacher Jenna Tolliver and full-time bus driver Tina Robinson; extended the contract for Dr. Fara Jones for the 2027-28 school year; approved the central office administrator list as presented for the 2025-26 school year; hired Shelbi Meyer and Fernando Angeles as evening custodians for the current school year; hired Morgan Mueller as a student services coordinator/counselor for the 2025-26 school year; hired Madyson Eller as a speech language specialist for the 2025-26 school year; transferred Catherine Stone to educational diagnostician for the 2025-26 school year; and approved the updated substitute list for the 2024-25 school year.
